Installing a
Pop-Up Drain If you're
thinking about installing a pop-up drain, be aware
that if your current faucet isn't compatible, you'll
have to replace it with one that is. Pop-up drains
require special faucet fixtures. You'll also be
working with many different parts that must come
together in the right order to work.
Don't worry. Just visualize the steps from start to
finish and anticipate the parts of the installation
that may cause problems. Clear out a work space in
the room and lay out all the tools and materials
you'll need for the job before you begin. With the
right preparation, you can easily save time and
money by installing a pop-up drain yourself.

Step One
Apply plumber's putty
(Use a 2 x 4 to support a wall-hung sink while
you're working.) Cover the bottom of the flange with
a rope of putty.

Step Two
Install the drain body
Push the drain body up through the lavatory hole
from underneath.

Step Three
Install the drain plunger
Slide the plunger into the drain opening. Under the
counter, insert the ball into the opening. The ball
should fit snugly into the opening in the drain
tailpiece.

Step Four
Thread the ball nut, hand
tighten
Slide the ball nut over the arm and screw it onto
the threads of the drain tailpiece. Set the pop-up
arm. Slide the arm through the nearest hole in the
lever strap and fasten it with a clip. Connect the
P-trap and adjust the arm if necessary.
